Content and goals
Large parts of the research landscape in Germany and other countries are still dominated by men in top positions. This goes hand in hand with a rather masculine communication culture that some women/people passing as female can’t always deal with.
As a woman, do you always have to adapt to a purely male context, or perhaps a middle ground will do as well? How do I successfully present myself as a woman in my professional environment in a way that makes me visible? These and other questions will be discussed in this interactive workshop.

In this workshop, the participants will learn and / or perform:

  • Different communication cultures
  • Sensitization exercises for power and dominance gestures
  • Performative speaking, presence and appearance to make a lasting impression
  • How to deal with bullshit: quick-wittedness for responding to inappropriate comments

Methods

  • mindmapping
  • theoretical input
  • practice units in group and individual work
  • offline individual work
  • peer-to-peer feedback
  • dicussion in plenum
    Self-presentation for women

Open Access has redefined the global academic publishing landscape since the early 2000s and will continue to shape how academic authors make their research results accessible.

This online event will give junior researchers of the ARIADNE Programme an understanding of the basic principles and models of Open Access publishing. It will create awareness of the necessity to project the costs attached to your publishing activities, and how to budget for them when submitting your work to publishers and research funders. A 30-minute introduction by Dr. Katrin Seyler, Open Access advisor at FAU’s university library, will be followed by an opportunity to discuss your specific concerns and plans around Open Access publishing. By the end of the session, you should be able to navigate the complex (and, often, expensive!) world of academic publishing with confidence and an idea of where to find support at FAU and beyond.
