DESCRIPTION
Strategic networking is decisive for career development particularly for women within the STEM fields yet still male dominated. In academia this job market is highly competitive and scientists intending to transition beyond academia – e.g. into industry – will most likely depend on senior door openers and personal contacts for their career change. The workshop will be mostly interactive within smaller groups and address the following issues:
- Career development for women in academia – networking a key success factor
- Networking analysis: goals, target groups, functions, and setting priorities
- Mindset: Beliefs, stumbling blocks, and boosting self confidence
- Networking strategies: best practices in various contexts and settings
- Communication Toolbox: active listening, questioning techniques, story telling
- Small Talk: topics, approaching tactics, nonverbal communication
- Systematic network management and maintaining contacts
The goal of the workshop is – last but not least – to encourage you to leave your comfort zone and discover that networking is not only crucial but can also be quite enjoyable.

Bespoke group coaching, focussed on strenghtening participants’ confidence and
effectiveness when presenting their research and expertise. The workshop will be highly practical and interactive.
- Presenting confidently and credibly in front of an audience

- Managing stage fright, nervousness and performance pressure
- Strengthening authority and presence when presenting technical or academic content

DESCRIPTION
The doctoral and postdoctoral phase is often characterized by high academic demands, uncertainty and a wide range of expectations. Many early-career female researchers experience self-doubt, high self-imposed standards and the challenge of reconciling academic career goals with their personal lives.
This workshop explores psychological resilience in academia and supports participants in strengthening their personal resources, managing self-doubt and stress, and developing strategies for a confident and sustainable academic journey. Participants also reflect on gender-specific challenges in academia, the visibility of their work and competencies, and the balance between academic career, personal life, and individual goals.

After the workshop, participants will be able to
